Privacy violations during repairs are a serious issue, yet there is insufficient advice available to users on how to protect their devices before sending them for repair. This thesis scrapes and evaluates online advice provided across various platforms to determine its adequacy in preparing users for repairs. We apply the STRIDE threat model to assess whether the advice mitigates potential risks and to identify gaps that need to be addressed to improve online repair advice. By incorporating findings from prior research, our analysis of the insufficiencies of online repair advice, and our threat model, we propose educational interfaces focused on enhancing user awareness of the importance of securing their devices before repairs.
